INTRODUCTION TO SOCCER INTERNATIONAL

Soccer International is an independent organisation that offers academy level coaching to players aged 5 to 16. Soccer International was awarded FA Charter Standard status in its first season while affiliated with the Gloucestershire FA in 2006. We teach our players using a progressive training syllabus that has taken years to complete, utilising coaches and facilities that often exceed those of local professional clubs. We operate outside of the constraints that arise when children sign for a pro club ; therefore all of our boys receive professional academy level training during the week but can also continue playing with their mates for their local team at the weekend while keeping their Professional Club options open.

What We Do…

Our training consists of two weekly sessions following the school calendar, using our coaching syllabus which is loosely based on the one used by the FFF (French Football Federation). Throughout the year we organise friendly games for our U'8 to U'16 groups against Premiership and Football League teams. We also take these age groups to domestic and elite tournaments across Europe. Our games and tournament programme means our boys are exposed to top English and European standards of football. Whilst this is a great experience on the pitch, the sense of team spirit and responsibility are great life lessons and this is often commented on by parents of the players.

How We Do It…

When our players start playing U'12 football we enter them into the Midland Junior Premier League, which boasts the highest level non-academy development league in the country. They play against development teams from across the midlands and the southern central part of the country. This means that our players are seen by the people who make decisions at many clubs, rather than just one man at one club. As a result, it gives our players greater opportunities to progress and a choice of pro clubs to sign for if they are talented enough.

Our Aim…

Quite simply, we want to bridge the huge gap that currently exists between grass-roots football and academy football. For those players seeking a future playing professionally we want to make sure that when they do join a pro club, it is the right club. It is never our choice where a player should sign; this decision is one for the whole family.Soccer International has already teamed up with Universities & colleges to provide its players with an exit route at age 16 - offering the best facilities and best coaching for the maximum amount of time while studying a foundation or recreational college course. All of our coaches hold either a UEFA ‘A’ or UEFA ‘B’ Licence coaching licence & deliver training topics during the week. Qualified volunteers (match day managers) shadow Academy coaches on training nights to relay the French syllabus implemented by director Jamie Shore on match days. All match day managers have attained at least the Level 2 FA coaching certificate in football and are mentored to progress. This includes child protection and the promotion of best practice as set out by the Football Association.

Jamie Shore - A 2010 Welcome back! Minimize
Jamie Shore - A 2010 Welcome back!
Great to be back!

The centres are looking well balanced and players look refreshed and hungry again. The staff also appear to be as enthusiastic if not more so than the players, which is great to see. We believe that players should look long term and become accustomed to change and embrace the different challenges that 2010 may bring.

On one hand, our U11 players at the Talent Centres should be preparing to move to our Academy at Clifton College in August/September and play in the Midland Junior Premier League.  On the other hand, our U16 players should be preparing attain placements at Millfield University, Team Bath University, Huish College, Filton College or Wiltshire College with whom we shall be arranging friendly showcase games up until the end of May to help players complete their move. We shall also be arranging games against Centres of Excellences between now and towards end of May to promote chances of a scholarship at a pro club.

In 2010, we refuse to measure our success in Silverware. Winning the games, Cup Tournaments or League Titles is encouraging but this will not distract us from our main goal. We are trying to produce a World Class player, which sounds simple enough, until you consider how many world-class players exist. Premiership Clubs scour the world and part with millions for them but they would all prefer to create their own. Success for us has nothing to do with winning. We had an excellent U14 team in 2007, the sort that comes along every 10 years. However, success for us is getting players into as many clubs as possible for them to make their preferred choice where they are most happy. This is only achievable if you stand out above the rest! Jack Butland (England U17 & Birmingham City), David Goldsmith (WBA) and James Seeley (Portsmouth) have gone through us along with 65 other players who have gone to pro clubs since 2003.

It is hard to produce players in this country when Spain, France or Holland the kids are training four, five or six times a week at young ages. At 15, English academies train their players 3 times a week at the very most. English academy players arrive as scholars at 16 and instantly on catch-up time. That is even at academies with the money and facilities so we should be producing players every bit as good as every other nation.

We demand quick football and quick decisions in games and promote clever play so we need clever players who have the ability to replicate that in training to an extremely high standard set by our coaches and Match day managers.

We reiterated to staff and players the standards and expectations for 2010. We asked Players if they expect to play with the same club, manager, coach or even friends in their football career or if they expect to have play for different clubs moving from first team to reserves with different managers and coaches making decisions on them and it was no surprise that players all agree with the latter.  We are pleased that JSSi players understand our holistic philosophy and methods to player development and they accept none selection or moving from one squad to the other. It is also vital as to how we communicate changes, even in the little time we have at training.

We wait to receive U12 to U14 trial dates from Aston Villa and shall inform the few chosen players of our recommendation if due course. West Bromwich Albion were delighted with the standard of recommended JSSi players who trialled in 2009 and happy to monitor players progress through us in a view to taking a more serious approach with our young players once they reach U14/U15.

Kind regards,

Jamie Shore
Director
